Speculating about what the truth of Nott’s backstory is, and just who Beth(Veth?) is/was is fun, but I’m not into people getting preemptively mad at Sam over a theory.

She was Nott at her best, it was understandable, and it definitely wasn’t targeted at one person in particular. She yelled at Caleb and aired some of his secrets in front of the others, but she also snapped at Jester when they first got to town and called her stupid.

Nott was very drunk and incredibly upset for much of what happened in Felderwin.

Confirmation that Trent probably thinks of him as a lost asset, and might still be actively looking, now more than ever.

Also along those lines, the “Trent’s proteges” part of those burned letters must have scared the hell out of him.He can’t keep running as a back-up plan as a comfort in the back of his head. So now his Big Goal, the only thing keeping him going, is tied to them, and he can’t neatly separate them anymore.

In fact, I think part of what upset him was realizing that some of his current companions have even closer ties to time and reality manipulation magic than he ever could have guessed. I don’t think Caleb is likely to leave over the Felderwin Revelations at all.Like with Nott’s anger later, I think readings of those scenes that take a “side” are kind of missing the point. Beau and Caleb’s inability to understand each other is amazing and shows us so much about both characters.
